Alex Friedman is a private investor, a board member of a number of national non-profit organizations, and the Chairman of Project Syndicate. He is the former Chief Executive Officer of GAM, a publicly listed investment management company. Previously, he served as Global Chief Investment Officer of UBS, overseeing in excess of $2 trillion in assets, and as Chief Financial Officer of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Alex was also a White House Fellow in the Clinton Administration and an assistant to the US Secretary of Defense. He holds a JD from Columbia Law School where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, an MBA from Columbia Business School, and a BA from Princeton University. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and has been a regular contributor to Bloomberg, CNBC, the FT and other news outlets.
